Anavar Results: What Can You Expect?
One of the most natural questions to ask before commencing a steroid cycle is ‘what result can I expect?’ – and this no different for Anavar, whether you’re taking it alone or in conjunction with other anabolic steroids or PEDs. It’s entirely natural; you want to know what the possibilities are, how much muscle you can gain, how much stronger you can get, how much body fat you can lose, and how much better you can look.
The truth is, answering the question, ‘What result can you expect from Anavar?’, is akin to asking ‘How long is a piece of string?’, i.e., it’s impossible to give a specific, one-size-fits-all answer. However, that doesn’t mean that this article will end here; it is entirely possible to discuss feasible outcomes based on a variety of variables (training, diet, cycle goals, genetics, etc.) and see how these may impact potential results. Furthermore, given the wealth of people out there who have used Oxandrolone, it’s possible to take the anecdotal evidence and use it to see what one can expect result-wise from taking Anavar.
When thinking about what results are possible, we can narrow it down to four categories: muscle gain, fat loss, physique changes, and strength. While it’s true that diet will play a large role in the first three, there is no doubt that different characteristics of exogenous hormones will play a significant role in determining ‘results’ and to what extent and how quickly they come. So, without further ado, let’s look at each category in greater depth.
History of Anavar Steroid
Anavar (Oxandrolone) was created in 1962 to increase lean muscle in patients suffering from cachexia (muscle-wasting illness).
However, it wasn’t long before Anavar became a big hit in bodybuilding, due to its anabolic and fat-burning properties.
Not only did Anavar become a highly coveted cutting steroid, but it also proved to be well tolerated by users; with women and children experiencing no harm in clinical trials.
Despite Anavar later being banned for recreational use, many men and women still take it today to increase muscle mass, definition and reduce their body fat percentage.
Today, gym-goers typically buy Anavar on the black market; as getting a doctor to prescribe you it for anything less than a muscle-wasting illness is out of the question.
So, we know why Anavar is in such high demand; but what about its results?
The real power of Anavar exists in its ability to help you retain existing muscle tissue while you burn fat during a cutting phase. Anavar will boost the rate of fat burning, while bringing about a hard, lean and tight physique with increased vascularity.
Potential results you can expect to see during and by the end of a cycle include:
- Weight loss (fat loss) during diet phases without the loss of muscle tissue
- More defined, harder and tighter muscle definition
- Increased vascularity thanks to a tighter physique and decreased fat
- Less fat gains the off season thanks to Anavar’s powerful anabolic properties
- Some gain of lean muscle tissue in men with no water retention. Females can expect impressive but not over-the-top muscle gains.
- Some noticeable increases in strength, power and speed making Anavar appealing for athletes who want these benefits without the attention grabbing muscle gains of other steroids
No risk of water retention is a major advantage with Anavar and a huge reason why it’s such a popular and potent cutting compound, including for competitive users.
Anavar Muscle Gain Results
One common misconception about Oxandrolone is that it doesn’t build muscle or it builds very little at all. This, contrary to popular belief, isn’t true. Oxandrolone, by its very nature, is a very anabolic compound. However, due to the fact that it won’t ‘blow you up’ like stronger steroids such as testosterone, Trenbolone, Deca Durabolin, Dianabol, Anadrol, and Superdrol, users often perceive it as a much weaker muscle builder. Much underestimated, Anavar can provide you great results in muscle gain, even in an Anavar only cycle.
At the end of the day, most anabolics will give similar lean muscle gains (actual muscle tissue), as the body – even when matured with powerful, exogenous anabolic hormones – can only build a certain amount of muscle at a certain rate. Sure, the likes of the anabolic mentioned above might build it at a quicker rate and to a slightly greater extent. However, Anavar can still build respectable muscle mass provided training and nutrition are dialed in.
The question is, how much muscle? Well, that’s impossible to say given the sheer number of variables that come into play – training, diet, recovery, cycle goals, genetics, etc. However, based on my own personal experience, it would not be uncommon to gain three or four pounds of lean muscle mass over an eight week Anavar only cycle, providing you train your ass off, eat correctly, stay away from alcohol, and do everything you can to optimize your gains.

Anavar Fat Loss Results
Oxandrolone is one of the few anabolic steroids that has been shown in studies to burn body fat; therefore, results in relation losing bodyweight and burning fat is where Anavar really shines – particularly when combined with training and nutrition geared towards fat loss, aka ‘cutting’. Alongside Winstrol, Anavar is the most common cutting steroid, and it’s easy to see why.
But how much fat can you actually lose? Well, this will depend on your training and nutrition. If your training and diet are geared towards exclusively burning fat, then dropping several percent of body fat is more than achievable over six to eight weeks. However, Anavar should not be viewed as a pure fat loss agent, as there are far better PEDs out there for this purpose (Clenbuterol, T3, etc.); instead, it should be viewed (and used) as an anabolic steroid that will preserve muscle mass while allowing the user to cut body fat percentage.
Anavar Physique Changes
Although physique changes and improvement in your body composition are primarily down to training and diet, PEDs such as Anavar can help to boost such changes given its anabolic and fat-burning nature. If we were to rank anabolic steroids in terms of body composition and physique changes (all variables being equal), Trenbolone would sit atop the list. However, Oxandrolone wouldn’t be that far down the list, since voice change, face change, skin color change and even mood change (although this isn’t a real physique effect) have all been reported changes with Anavar use; in fact, only high-dose Masteron and Winstrol probably eclipse Anavar.
But, it’s not just about how much a compound can change your physique; it’s primarily about risk vs. reward. While Trenbolone will have a profound impact on anyone’s physique, it comes with a myriad of physical and mental side effects that wreak havoc on 99% of users. Therefore, a ‘milder’ steroid such as Anavar is often a better choice simply because it is still effective yet comes with fewer side effects. Of course, it’s not side-effect-free, but from experience, I can tell you that Tren and Oxandrolone are completely different!
Anavar Strenght Increase Results
Despite often referred to as a ‘mild’ steroid, Oxandrolone performs exceptionally well in the strength department; therefore, it’s safe to say the strength results you can expect from Anavar are beyond that of most steroids (aside from Trenbolone and Halotestin). From personal experience, I know how powerful Var is where strength is concerned, so an increase of 10-15% in bench press, deadlift, squat, and military press is not uncommon in just a short six to eight-week cycle. In another post of this Anavar series I have given an insight in the right dosages to use. Of course, how you train will impact how much strength you will gain. Training in a low rep range (2-5 reps) with 80%+ of your one-rep max is the best way to maximize strength gains.
Dosage for Maximum Results
Male beginners typically will take 15-20mg/day of Anavar — lasting for 6 weeks.
If the dose is lower than this, the results will be less. Generally, doses over 20mg/day are unnecessary and will increase the risk of side effects, without experiencing further gains.
Women, during a first cycle, may take 5-10mg per day, lasting 5 weeks. One protocol is to take 5mg during the first week to ease their bodies into a cycle, then take 10mg for the remaining 4 weeks.
If a woman has taken Anavar before, she may start on 10mg/day and extend her cycle to 6 weeks for further results. However, women won’t want to go higher than 10mg/day or beyond 6 weeks; as the risk of virilization dramatically increases.
One of the reasons why Anavar is so popular is because it produces exceptional gains in women, without affecting their femininity. However, if excessive doses are taken, they are more at risk of developing a deeper voice, smaller boobs, enlarged clitoris and hair growth on the body.
However, the good news is that Anavar is considered very female-friendly (when taking 5-10mg per day for 5-6 weeks). Many women will notice few side effects when on this dose.
Some females may be tempted to stack Anavar with other steroids (such as Winstrol) for better results; however, this will increase the risk of masculinization and should be avoided.
What Results Can You Expect From Anavar?: Final Thoughts
Regardless of your cycle goals, Anavar will certainly help you on your way and play a not insignificant role in helping you achieve what you want to achieve – be that muscle gain, fat loss, recomping, strength, or a little bit of all. While it’s true that Oxandrolone is best for recomping and strength gain, it can be used for bulking and solely fat loss, but your expectations must be reined in given that it’s kind of a jack-of-all-trades where these are concerned.
